JessiCurl brand Review

If you've been wondering if JessiCurl might be a good fit for your waves or curls I am here to give you the scoop!

JessiCurl is a brand I did not think would work for me. Protein in haircare products can strengthen and support waves and curls. My hair happens to love protein but others can be sensitive to it. JessiCurl is not only protein-free but has the option to be fragrance-free, which can be a very big deal to those with migraines or other sensitivities. While we're touching on what JessiCurl doesn't have, it is also free of gluten, sulfates, silicones, fillers, parabens, and drying alcohols. Thus earning the brand the coveted award of being "Curly Girl Method" approved.

I used products from the Light & Luminous Collections described on the website as:

Light & Luminous: Finer curls have a tendency to get weighed down by certain products, but this collection will ensure that doesn’t happen to you! Six different products best suited for finer curls that get weighed down easily.  It includes a step-by-step instructional insert with tons of tips and techniques to help you get fabulous curl enhancement and definition.  NOTE: 2-ounce collections are available in no-fragrance only.

In this collection, you have a gentle lather shampoo, a daily conditioner, a heavier conditioner for occasional extra TLC, and three styling products. I also tried a gel not included in this collection.

Products I have tried:

Gentle Lather Shampoo, Daily Conditioner, Too Shea Conditioner, Gelabration Spray, Confident Coils, Awe Inspiraling Spray, Spiralicous Gel.

Come see how I used them as well as final thoughts.

The Day I Went Gray

The day I went gray

Okay, so it wasn't a single day, and as you'll find hanging out with me through the gray process, it certainly didn't happen in a day... or even a year for that matter. Alas, all good journeys have to have a starting point.

Social Media can seem a bit like a dumping ground of overwhelming content, that is a bit of how I view my personal FaceBook account these days. Everyone gets to throw what they like at "the wall" so it doesn't seem to have much order. Instagram is a bit different in that there are many subgroups, so if you love foster kitten you can choose, by choosing who you follow, to have almost everything you consume to be on foster kittens.

My Instagram has been hair content for quite some time now. I started to follow the Curly Girl Method in November of 2018 and followed many curly and wavy hair enthusiasts. My feed was full of gorgeous and waves and people sharing what was working for them and what wasn't. I learned how to care for my wavy hair because of that Instagram community.

Wavy Hair Glow Up

Then one day, maybe this isn't "the day" I went gray but it is the day a seed was planted,  I had a question sent to me about wavy hair from a woman growing out her gray. How silly was it to have not really crossed my mind before that a woman could just decide to let her gray hair grow out without having any single specific reason? I had reserved that for women who either hated the salon, were sensitive to hair dye or were very against beauty standards. I didn't fall in any of those categories so I never even considered not coloring my hair.

After following her Instagram and really diving into her posts I tested the waters of the silver hair community. Finding hashtags like grombre, silversisters, grayhairgrowout had me following other women on this journey, and seeing the support and authenticity in that community sparked my interest but I wasn't quite ready yet. It took a bit longer to gain the determination to announce I was going to ditch the dye.
